Import Export Hong Kong Quality Migrant Program

In the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic an in China there is a point-based immigration system called the import and export Hong Kong quality migrant program. This was being announced in February 2006 and began accepting the applications from the month of June, 2006 and by May 2008 almost 500 people had been affiliated as residents of Hong Kong under this special scheme. This program is excellent for applicants who are involved in international trading and wish to use HK as base for expanding their global business operations.

This scheme was for the talented people from main parts of China and the rest of the world to settle and start their business or do a job in Hong Kong. It has various criteria for making an admission by which applicants can opt for a residence in Hong Kong without having any local employment which is generally required for a normal working visa.

Applicants should be between 18-50 years of age and they must be able to demonstrate that they are capable to support and accommodate themselves and also their dependants, if any without depending on public assistance. The applicants must possess good character and basic educational qualification. Nationals of many countries like Albania, Afghanistan, Cuba, Cambodia, Laos, North Korea, Vietnam and Nepal may not be applicable for this scheme.

The minimum passing mark under the first type general points test is 80 points. The Government had waited for 5months to issue the first visa under this scheme though 6 people had applied in the first week. In 2007, out of 582 people who had applied
